Bringing Pop Warner Football to Colts Neck, Mario Romano has been a great advocate of youth sports in New Jersey. According to Mario Romano, Colts Neck parents share a common concern for the safety of their kids. “Pop Warner Football is very much concerned with providing a high level of safety for athletes everywhere, including those in our Colts Neck league,” Mario Romano assures parents. It may seem that playing football at any level will inevitably cause an abundance of injuries, but organizations like Pop Warner Football are combatting this misconception with high safety standards.

First, as in Mario Romano’s local Colts Neck league, all Pop Warner Football players are subject to multiple, mandatory weigh-ins. When a player joins the Pop Warner Football league in Colts Neck, Mario Romano says that they will be weighed and placed in the proper division. A player’s age and maturity are also taken into consideration. “Each Pop Warner Football league is divided into 9 different divisions in Colts Neck,” Mario Romano says. “This ensures children of the same age and weight are playing together,” he explains. With the special age/weight divisions, children are much less likely to be injured from on-field play.

The other major safety precaution Pop Warner Football enacts is the proper usage of precise safety equipment. “One thing parents can be sure about with the Pop Warner Football league in Colts Neck,” Mario Romano promises, “is that their children will have equipment that fits properly.” Leagues like the one in Colts Neck, Mario Romano continues, carefully take measurements of a child’s head, shoulder width and waistline to ensure a good fit. “To have every child with snug helmets and shoulder pads,” Colts Neck’s Mario Romano describes, “is a benefit that cannot be overstated.”

As if these measures themselves aren’t enough to reassure parents in the Colts Neck Pop Warner Football league, Mario Romano points out that the statistics should be. “Injury rates in Pop Warner leagues, including ours in Colts Neck,” Mario Romano informs, “is less than one-third that of high school football.” The statistics are even more staggering compared to players at the college (one-fifth) and professional (one-ninth) levels. When the numbers are crunched, Mario Romano says Colts Neck parents have little to be uneasy about. He says that “A recent study showed that about 1.3 injuries occur per team, per year – and none of them were catastrophic.”

Mario Romano Says Colts Neck’s Pop Warner Football Values Academics

When he was looking for funding to begin a Pop Warner Football league in Colts Neck, New Jersey, Mario Romano did not immediately foresee one of the teams making it to the Pop Warner Super Bowl. All Mario Romano knew was that the children in Colts Neck had to travel a long way to play Pop Warner Football, and he wanted that to change. But in order to get the league underway, Mario Romano needed to raise the money needed to buy equipment and insurance, as well as find Colts Neck coaches and volunteers to run the operation. And after months of hard work, Mario Romano was pleased simply have a Colts Neck league, let alone think about making it to the Pop Warner Football Super Bowl. Even so, Mario Romano of Colts Neck had to learn the path to the game-of-all-games in youth football.

The road to the Pop Warner Super Bowl, according to Colts Neck’s Mario Romano, consists of three major phases. The first phase, as Colts Neck’s Mario Romano tells it, is the regular season. Regular seasons in Colts Neck, Mario Romano says, begin at the end of August or beginning of September. “Before a Colts Neck athlete can compete,” Mario Romano asserts, “they must provide Pop Warner Football with proof of age, permission from a parent or legal guardian, a physical exam, as well as meet academic standards.” Colts Neck’s Mario Romano is proud of the stance Pop Warner Football has taken in regards to the importance of academics.

“Pop Warner Football is intended to be as much about teaching our Colts Neck students the importance of education as the importance of school,” Mario Romano says. As a result, Mario Romano of Colts Neck explains the Pop Warner 2.0 Grade Point Average/70% standard. When Colts Neck’s Mario Romano visited the Pop Warner Football website, he saw that their main objective was “building sound minds and bodies for our leaders of tomorrow.” Mario Romano tells about how Colts Neck athletes are monitored throughout the season to ensure they are meeting the requirements. “You would be surprised at how few incidents we have with the kids,” Mario Romano of Colts Neck says. “They really want to play in their games, so they make the grades.”

Colts Neck’s Mario Romano describes the rest of the road to the Pop Warner Football Super Bowl. After the regular season, a league champion will be determined from an end-of-the-year playoff. After the league champion is decided, Mario Romano of Colts Neck explains that the winning team participates in a regional championship. Academics are always checked prior to games, and after a team wins their regional championship, Mario Romano says they are off to the Super Bowl at Disney World. “Quite a long way for our Colts Neck players to go, but well worth the ride!” he concludes.
